| 授業のねらいと達成目標 /Course Objectives |
The course will explore various aspects of language and society. The language under discussion will mostly be English, but comparisons will be made with Japanese and, of course, students' experiences with Japanese society and any others will be invaluable. Students will learn various aspects of language in society and be equipped to research the topics they are interested in further. |
| 授業概要 /Course description |
The course will proceed on the lines of a negotiated syllabus, largely according to student needs and interests. The topics will be based on those in the textbook, but they will be developed according to student interests and needs. The schedule below is only a guide. The course will be conducted in English. The textbook is a 'must' as the course will follow the chapters and topics in the book. Students should be prepared to read outside class and ask follow up questions in class. They should be prepared to discuss the ideas, present and write about them. |

Anyone taking the course will benefit from having an active interest and willing to ask questions and discover answers for themselves with the teacher's guidance. It will require one to two hours of work outside class time. |
